Callum Fraser - Mathematics Books Editorial Resources

About Me

My name is Callum and I am a commissioning editor for mathematics books at CRC Press, the Science imprint of Taylor & Francis. I publish textbooks, monographs, references, handbooks, and professional books across a range of topics. My main focus is on applied areas like financial mathematics, mathematical biology, and artificial intelligence, but I will happily consider proposals on subjects outside of this remit.

I  always do my best to reply to every submission, but please bear in mind that I receive a lot of emails and may sometimes take a while to respond. Below, you will find a very brief outline of the publishing process from submission to publication, and if you have further questions feel free to email me.

Please explore the resources below and get in touch with your next idea.

NB: While I do publish some books that have a more generalist appeal (such as our popular recreational mathematics books), CRC Press books are principally aimed at an academic or professional audience. Pure 'trade' books would be better served by another publisher.

Proposal Submission

Production

Submit your proposal, plus any sample chapters, to callum.fraser@tandf.co.uk

I receive a high volume of proposals but do my best to reply to all submissions.

If I am interested in the project I will send it out for third party review. This process usually takes 4-8 weeks. Assuming the feedback is positive and constructive I will present the proposal internally and offer a contract if it is approved.

Once the book is signed, you will have to write it! I will share our various templates and guidelines with you and stay in touch throughout. You can also find most of these guidelines below.

Once your book is ready and you have submitted it, we will assign a proof-reader and typesetter, and I will work with you on things like cover design and post-publication plans. The production process usually takes around 6 months.

Author FAQs

Do I get royalties?

Authors receive royalties based on the book's net sales. We are competitive with other major academic publishers. You can access more information here.

What is the copyright status?

Authors retain the original copyright of their work. CRC Press manages the publishing rights and distribution for the book's global release.

Do you prefer LaTeX or Word?

For mathematics books I strongly prefer LaTeX to Word, but if you are not proficient with LaTeX this is not a barrier to working with us.

Are there production costs?

No. You will only ever incur costs if the book is an Open Access book (email me for more information), or if you breach specific terms of your contract.

How big are your print runs?

For most books we now print on a Print on Demand (POD) basis. However, for some books with higher production values, such as those with full colour photography, we will print a modest print run to cover pre-orders, and replenish this on a rolling basis.
